because my soul is not a raisin

I am what I am

The Rebbe MaMash points out that the first word of the first commandment "I am the Lord you God, is Anochi, aleph, nun, caf, yud, which means "I am", and refers to Gods very essence. Interestingly, and strangely, the midrash Tanchuma states that the word Anochi is of Egyptian origin. How is that possible? The Rebbe teaches that davka in the lowest place, which is represented by Miztrayim, is where we need to reveal that which is highest, which is Gods very essence.

So if that was not enough, the Aron Eidus similarly asks about the word Anochi. Why not use the simpler language of Ani, aleph, nun, yud? The reason is that the word Anochi is the gematria of the word for nature, Teva, tet, bais, ayin. This teaches that all of nature is godliness. Even though that something may appear "natural", it really is only the power of God dressed in nature. The Rebbe said that every Jew must believe this because it is the essential foundation of emunah.

don't rely on segulahs

Today is the day that is mesugal to say parshas haMann according to R. Menachem Mendel of Rimonov. Better to say it everyday, but if you don't, then don't forget today.  Nonetheless, don't rely on the segulah, that would defeat the purpose.  The Mann teaches us to only rely on HaShem and we should be trying to build our confidence and trust in Him everyday.  Given that, the Rimonover taught that today is a special day to connect to living the lesson of the Mann and build our muscles of emunah.

The Aron Eidus teaches in this parshah, that it is known that the Mann is relavant also today (in our times), as it says in the verse "...for all generations". This hints that the influence of the Mann remains for all generations... but it is only possible to receive it through emunah.

A person (must) believe that the his effort does not have any affect on his parnasah; only Hashem alone sustains and provides livelihood, and nourishes all of his creation.  Someone who is able to (have this faith) is able to bring to himself the spiritual influence to acquire parnasah without any disturbances or difficulties, just like the Mann.

As the Jews said to each other (when they saw the Mann): מן הוא (it is Mann) which are the letters of emunah (אמונה).  So to today, an outpouring of abundance is only through emunah.  As the verse says "Behold! I am going to rain down for you bread from heaven".  (הנני ממטיר) Behold, I am going to rain down- is the gematria of produce - (תבואה), to hint to us that the verse is not only speaking about the Mann.

the process of prayer

Aron Eidus - Parshas VaYigash

אדוני באזני דבר עבדך נא ידבר
"...May your servant speak a word in my lord's ears,"

Structured prayer is divided into two sections.

First, until Shemoneh Esrei, one needs to pray loudly; this is the aspect of a servant who serves with his body. Therefore, the acronym of the word servant (עבד) is (עור) skin, (בשר) flesh, and (דם) blood, all parts of the body.

Afterwords, in Shemoneh Esrei one reaches the level of a son and prays in a whisper and with self-sacrifice.

This is similar to one who lights something on fire; as the fire begins it is possible to hear the flames crackling and afterwords, the noise of burning quiets down.

This is the meaning of  "may your servant speak a word", that, at the beginning, when he is like a servant he speaks loudly, but in the end "in my lord's ears" he prays in a whisper with self-sacrifice.
