because my soul is not a raisin

take responsibility

The path outlined by our holy Sages of all generations is not to be strayed from, but within it you must carve your own way. Apply their general rules to your personal situation to solve the problems of your own spiritual life. Only then are you prepared to fight the inner battle, because only then can you make use of the potent words of the wise. Abstract knowledge unpersonalized for your life only leaves you like a soldier without ammunition.

The Moshiach Inside Everyone Of Us
Rav Moshe Weinberger, giving over a talk of Tzvi Meir.

Although, this meant for the start of the Three Weeks, it certainly is relavant now and all year long, so why wait (at least to vidicate myself and settle the mind of the skeptic).

Pay attention, there is a spark of Moshiach inside every Jew. This piece of Moshiach must be clutivated, nurtured and developed. We must raise it up!

illuminating the darkness

Parshas Beha'aloschah, 5769
excerpt from a discourse of the Biala Rebbe, shlita

When Aharon lit the candles of the Menorah, he cast the light of the Torah’s holiness into the hearts and souls of the Jewish people throughout time. “For a mitzva is a candle and the Torah is light.” By the light of the Torah’s wisdom, we can find meaning and purpose in our lives, and discover a path that leads through the darkness of the night.

The Toldos Adam thus explains Hashem’s answer to Aharon (“By your life I swear that your contribution is greater than theirs..."). His role in lighting the Menorah would be even greater than the korbanos of the Beis HaMikdash. Even after the Beis HaMikdash would be destroyed, Aharon would still be able to illuminate Jewish souls by means of the Torah, which is compared to light.

active yearning

Yearning is of value only if you put it into action as a driving force for reaching higher levels. Otherwise, it will tend to create with you a subtle despair. Without your being aware of it, you will be feeling, "I have been yearning for so many years and have accomplished nothing. I must have no further potential." In the end, you will stop yearning.

it's the little things that count

Rav Tzvi Meir brings down from the sefarim that the word Amelek (עמלק) is constructed of Amel-koof (עמל-ק), which means laboring for perfection (the letter koof (ק) in gematria is 100 and represents completion and perfection).

Amelek tries to decieve a Yid to strive only for perfection, and if the avodah is not complete it has no value. It's the perception that great aspirations are all that matter and a little bit won't do.

But, the Rav points out, this is not true. Chazal say someone who learns 100 times (koof - ק) does not compare to someone who learns 100 and 1 times. It's that extra one that makes all the difference because that one time itself, every little bit that you do, is exremely valuable.

spiritual warriors

As we all know, the verse "And you shall walk in His ways" (Devorim 28:9) teaches us to emulate G-d's ways by acting merciful (as He is Merciful), acting compassionate (as He is Compassionate), and so forth. So it follows that since it says in Shiras haYom that "Hashem is a man of war" (Shmos 15:3), we also must be warriors: spiritual warriors.

unlock boundless potential

The only conductor to ever lead the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Benjamin Zander is a prophet of human potential and an unrivaled champion of joie de vivre. Watch as he helps unlock the boundless potential of a 15 year old cellist and teaches the entire audience what it means to live in a world of possibility.

An inspiring 30 minutes, well worth watching. Zander is a great teacher, funny and encouraging. His subject is music, but his main focus is perceptions and fulfilling potential. Believe it or not, but there is a powerful message about emunah to learn from his talk.
