because my soul is not a raisin

redefine your expectations

There is a known parable from the Dubna Maggid on the pasuk (Yeshayahu 43:22), "You have not called Me, Yaakov, for you have tired Me, Yisrael."  We will not elaborate on the parable, but only mention the main point.  When it seems to a person that avodas Hashem requires tremendous effort, because it is a huge mountain  that is very difficult to climb so as to reach true levels - when he senses he is in a state of "you have tired me, Yisrael," that is a sign that "You have not called Me, Yaakov."  He is not serving Hashem properly.

we will succeed

Seriously, if you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.

just gotta be me

If I am I because I am I, and you are you because you are you, than I am I and you are you. But if I am I because you are you, and you are you because I am I, then I am not I and you are not you.

fun with gematria

I just came across this site – great fun! It seems that my name in gematria means "God, trustworthy King", "umbilical cord", and much more. (I am large, I contain multitudes.)

dust of the earth

Know that when in conflict with another person, you should not directly confront him, thinking, “I’m going to do to him exactly what he is trying to do to me,” for that will only help him achieve his goal. Rather, you should judge him favorably and do good to him, as we say in the prayer, "Let my soul be like the dust of the earth to everyone.” Everyone steps on the earth, yet the earth constantly gives - food, drink, gold, silver, and jewels - all of this is from the earth. Likewise, a person should give even to those people who seek to harm him.

Rebbe Nachman, Likutey Mohoran, 277

spiritual reframing

It is not enough to be just a religious Jew - make yourself into a deeply spiritual person.

the impossible can happen

Parshas Shlach, 5766
excerpt from a discourse of the Biala Rebbe, shlita

The spies were thus the first to ever be confronted with the great challenge of balancing hishtadlus (human effort) against bitachon (faith): living in a world of human effort, while still believing that their success or failure would be orchestrated by Hashem. This was such a radical change from the world of miracles they had previously known that they floundered under the emotional burden. They then concluded that Bnei Yisrael could not possibly survive in Eretz Yisrael, and should best remain within the miraculous clouds of glory that surrounded them in the desert, since any foray into the realm of nature would prove too hazardous.
